ABOUT THE!

Lead Partner

  • UCLL

UC Limburg is experienced in coordinating and managing regional, euregional and European projects.

As a  university college, UCLL acts as a gateway to knowledge both for professional practice and education in general.

During the academic year 2014-2015, UC Limburg Group Management and Technology participated in the project ‘Techniek in de zorg’. UC Limburg has become an expert in this field and is in a position to lead the current project with the required expertise.

In addition, UC Limburg has a large number of technology students, as well as students in health care and wellbeing, with expertise in healthy living, empowering people and active aging. Researchers and students from these groups have close-knit contacts with the field of medical care and can therefore provide guidance to healthcare institutions and students. Furthermore, UC Limburg invests strongly in multidisciplinary research.

Project Partners

  • LUCA

Within the study programmes and research groups of Luca Campus C-Mine, the following competences, relevant to this project, are present:

    -    Interaction design: how to design interaction between people via machines like a smartphone, computer, sensors...

    -    Usability: the domain of user-friendly designs

    -    Participative design: involving all participants in the development or design process.

    -    One-on-one design: non-generalizing design, for one person by one person. Adequate for ‘sensitive’ contexts, such as healthcare.

    -    Playful interfaces: how to make a functional interface (what lies between human and machine) that is not only functional (usable) and aesthetic (beautiful), but also comfortable in use

    -    Rapid manufacturing (3D printing, laser cutting,...): a form of computer-based manufacturing. This facilitates a way of designing that is more difficult ‘by hand’.

The research group Social Spaces has already been working on different projects in healthcare (Design op Maat, Dementielab, ...). The design research within these projects focuses on participative design, together with a specific target group for very specific needs. During this research, toolkits are designed to support the design process. More info on our researchblog: http://www.socialspaces.be

  • Cecotepe

CECOTEPE has been active in the field of technical and vocational education for over 40 years. Each year we train about 4000 people of which +/- 500 teachers and +/- 500 professional healthcare workers.

Based on the analysis of the needs of the study programme, CECOTEPE covers the design, planning and execution of study programmes aimed at companies, public services, non-profit organisations, ... (i.e. numerous hospitals).

Being a research centre connected to the Haute Ecole of the Province of Liege, CECOTEPE is the ideal platform to create networks for resources of the education system of the Province of Liege (secondary education and university college). Numerous technical training programmes (i.e. paramedical) are taught in the schools (see lists of institutions and subjects in the presentations of our partners). In addition to its permanent staff, CECOTEPE has a network of hundreds of experts and teachers that can easily be mobilised.

  • EQF

The Espace Qualité Formation was established in June 2002 by the province of Liège and was assigned with “supporting, strengthening and developing study programmes within technical and vocational secondary education, up to secondary education plus 5 years, in basic education and training courses”. Within its current general activities this programme follows 3 outlines: improving the management of the study programmes and educational institutions; improving integration of vulnerable groups into the job market; finetuning study programmes to the needs of society and the economy. The team handles the expansion of networks of resources and existing partners for the analysis and the maintenance of innovating actions with the goal of improving the study programme and education system. This is translated into e.g. guidance projects for educational institutions with quality assurance procedures or raising awareness among secondary education students for technical jobs and scientific professions. EQF has participated in the project ‘Future proof for cure and care” to analyse the job market for healthcare professions in the EMR.

  • Zuyd

Technology in healthcare is one of the  focal points of Zuyd.; This has been recognized by the Dutch government through its allocation of the Expertise centre Innovative Care and Technology. In EIZT research, education, business and institutions work together on innovation in practice.

EIZT is collaborating intensively with “Zorgtechniek Limburg”, the centre for innovative craftsmanship for MBO (vocational education). Manning the projects with students from the entire range of professions is guaranteed via this relation.

NEBER is an expertise centre in the field of innovative energy, Built Environment and Renewables. A profound knowledge of the “Built Environment” is required to answer the questions arising with the ever-aging population that wishes to stay in their own houses. For a few years, Zuyd has been bundling its expertise in multidisciplinary research units.

Healthcare technology is a major focal point in many Zuyd study programmes. Numerous aspects of healthcare technology are woven into the healthcare programmes: in the Bachelor programme “Engineering” the selection profile ‘Healthcare Technology’ and within the Bachelor programme “Built Environment” cases  on the (re)design of districts in which healthcare concepts have been integrated.  Zuyd is quite experienced in participating in international (research) projects.
